Environment
As a television company, Carlton does not have large environmental impacts. However, we do have opportunities to use resources more efficiently – so protecting the environment and reducing costs.
The main environmental issues associated with our offices and studios are global warming (from energy and transport), waste, water use and ozone depletion (from air conditioning).
The Group environment committee coordinates environmental initiatives. The facilities managers at our main sites also meet regularly with the environment committee to share ideas and identify possible improvements.
In April 2003 we launched an environmental intranet site and a poster campaign to help raise employee awareness of environmental issues. These focus on ways employees can help achieve our energy reduction and paper recycling targets.
We significantly reduced energy use and increased paper recycling in 2002/03 – well beyond the target levels. Although this is partly due to environmental improvements at some of our sites, the main contributing factors are a decrease in the size of our business and improvements in data collection.
